STUDIFY
UNL

The Gaughan Multicultural Center continues the tradition of past UNL Culture Centers, providing a home away from home for underrepresented students, while welcoming all UNL students, faculty, staff, alumni and guests.

The Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center not only provides study rooms, but it also is the only place on campus that offers free massage chairs!

The Multicultural Center is a stated priority of the Chancellor and an important step in securing and expanding the progress the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has made in our diversity efforts as a campus.

The Multicultural Center provides multiple study and lounge spaces as well as student organization offices, meeting and conference rooms, a music room, a kitchen and a computer lab.

The Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center has a variety of meeting rooms that can be reserved for use.

The Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center is dedicated to diversity and multicultural programming. The 30,000 square-foot facility is connected to the east side of the Nebraska City Campus Union.

Housed in the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center, the Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services (OASIS) hosts an array of diversity-focused events, including Lunch and Learns, Community Support Initatives, and Cultural Heritage Celebrations.

Outside of the study rooms and massage chairs, the Multicultural Center offers a bunch of chairs that makes them able to hold a bunch of students.

Prior to the opening of the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center in 2010, the university used an old church just off of campus known as the Culture Center for the same purposes.
Every student on campus knows about the library, so why not step out and be that friend with the "cool" study spot?! The Multicultural Center offers more than just that booth you soon turn into a bed after that long, all-nighter. It becomes the place you stop between classes for that 5-minute message, the study area during finals week that offers delicious snacks, and the area you now meet your friends out for a casual hangout that you like to call studying!
GPA: 3.39
Nap-ability: A+
Considering the amount of comfortable seating you can find at the multicultural center, you will definitely find yourself napping there... maybe more than you want. It is especially easy to sit back in the massage chair, relax and let the chair work its magic as you forget about all the stress and find yourself dozing off within minutes. So, if the goal is ultimate productivity for the day, avoid the massage chairs at all costs.
Outlets: B
Since the multicultural center consists of 3 floors, it's hard to say how great the plug accessibility is. But don't fret! They are definitely there, on the first floor the outlets are on the floor under those weird little grey doors, located right next to the tables and chairs making it super convenient. The second floor is where you might run into some plug shortages but trust me, they're around you just have to look.
Caffeine Boost: C+
Other than the Pepsi vending machine on the second floor, the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center does not have a place for your daily caffeine boost. No need to worry though, Starbucks (the real one) is in the Union and the multicultural center just so conveniently happens to be attached to the union. So if you find yourself needing that pick me up, it's right down the hall... a really long hallway but you don't have to step outside to get it.
Ambiance: A-
The multicultural center can go from 0 to 100 real quick. It all depends on 3 things, what time you go, what day you go and what floor you are on. The first floor can sometimes get a little rowdy, people coming in and out and chit chat left and right. Once you get up to the second and third floor it is a more mellow and quiet setting. The multicultural center is rowdier during the week and a little more empty during the weekend.
Accessibility: A+
It surprises me how many people are not aware that the multicultural center exists. The multicultural center is attached to the union, so it is very accessible. It is located right in the middle of campus and if you are in the union, you can walk right over by taking the stairs to the second floor! This is a huge convenience for people during the winter!
Productivity: B+
Looking for a hidden gem outside of the library? Well, look no further than the Multicultural Center! This is the place to be: with a coffee boost right down the hall, comfortable massage chairs in the lobby, and a convenient location on campus!
